September 1939 saw the Squadron arrive at Gibralter, despite the fact that they were stationed at Gibralter and flying operations out over the bay of Biscay, maintenance for the SARO Londons was still being undertaken at Kalafrana in Malta. Often there were only three airframes available at Gibralter. Tne Squadron was complemented ay this time by the additon of Aircraft from No 3 Anti Aircraft Co-operation unit, flying Fairy Swordfish.

Following the defeat of the French Vichy Navy, and the increased patrol areas this placed on the Squadron two Sunderlands of 228 Squadron arrived to assist the Londons.

The Squadron finally replaced the last of thier SARO Londons in July of 1941 when the first two Consolidated Catalinas arrived, these were supplemented in December by the arrival of some heavyweight Sunderlands of thier own!

By September 1944 the Squadron's duties in the Mediterranean and Biscay had come to an end and the Squadron moved to Northern Ireland
